Solvable Challenges: The Making of African Smart Cities

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is changing the way in which these cities provide services to their residents.

PARC 2019 challenges African students to devise solutions for the planning, design, management and transformation of future African cities in an increasingly complex urban environment.

Student projects will incorporate science and technologies included but not limited to:

  • IoT and connectivity
  • Data science & cloud technology
  • Data visualization & simulation (e.g., Augmented and Virtual Reality)
  • Citizen design & cognitive computing
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cybersecurity
  • Personal alert systems
  • Driverless cars
  • Human-machine interaction
  • Smart transportation
  • Responsive and flexible infrastructure
  • Smart & renewable energy

Timeline

  • December 2018

    The Request to Participate form will be available from December 15, 2018 - January 15, 2019. During this period, teams will be able to register for consideration to compete at PARC2019.

  • January 2019

    The Request to Participate form will close January 15, 2019. Applications will be reviewed and the teams selected to compete will be announced on January 31, 2019.

  • February - June 2019

    Competing teams will receive their robot kit and official competition rules on February 1, 2019. Teams will have until July to prepare their robots and presentations for the competition.

  • July 2019

    PARC2019 in Accra, Ghana!

Start a Team

An eligible PARC team must have a minimum four (4) and a maximum of five (5) students. Each team can have up to two adult mentors as Coaches.
